The ‘Badly Present Art’ festival is a project of the Institute of National Remembrance. It was created to bring the artistic heritage of the post-war years in Poland out from the archives and familiarise the general public with the works of artists who could not publicly create during the communist regime. For the event, we designed a comprehensive graphic setting: key imagery, outdoor ads, animations, and all the visual elements.

The glitch effect we used, which you can find in the key visual and in the client’s current website animation, symbolically refers to the creators being excluded and censored by the communist authorities of Poland. The festival gives the opportunity to bring works out from the archives and give them new life.
The archive in our project is presented more directly – in shades of grey and in imitation of the texture of old paper, but we did not forget about the vivid, lively colour in the foreground. After all, the festival is a public entertainment event, and the very fact of showing art that had forcibly remained hidden for so long was a cause for joy.
